Domino is proud to announce the debut album, ‘Enter The Slasher House’, from Avey Tare’s Slasher Flicks, released on April 7th 2014, (April 8th in the US). Listen to ‘Little Fang’, the first single released on the same day, HERE.
Slasher Flicks by name alone is not what it appears to be. Scrambled horror film soundtracks? Not even remotely. A bunch of East Coasters making their quintessential LA album? No, more like escape from LA, say guitar-wielding lead singer Avey Tare (of Animal Collective), keyboard player and singer Angel Deradoorian (of Dirty Projectors, Deradoorian), and drummer Jeremy Hyman (of Ponytail, Dan Deacon). If LA is an environment to get lost in, as they claim, this group sewing roots in SoCal have become lost in the best way: relocating and reinventing sounds they’re already skilled in making, sounds that as Avey Tare says, are not only regionally unrestricted but that “come from a place that’s not human.”
Having composed the bones of these eight songs on acoustic guitar, Avey Tare invited Deradoorian to create melodic lines to flesh them out. Then, enter Hyman, whose backgrounds in painting and music proved his rare combo of flexibility and acuity, “free but structured”. Uniquely its own “jazz power trio,” Slasher Flicks produced and recorded the songs live at the Lair studio using only minimal overdubs; the live sound being key to Slasher Flicks’ spooky dynamism.
While their sound is monstrous and there are nightmarish moments peppering the lyrics and melodies, Little Fang’s clean guitars, soft everything and special smoke called "PYT" blown into the tape machine shows off spirits conjured from sweeter worlds.
The band will head out on a North American tour following the album’s release. All US dates are below and a special ticket and album bundle is available to purchase now from the band's site, which also contains live performance footage. Pre-order ‘Enter the Slasher House’ on CD, double heavyweight LP from the band's store or Domino Mart and digitally from iTunes and get an instant mp3 download of ‘Little Fang.’

We are pleased to announce the new album from Owen Pallett, In Conflict, on May 13th on Domino (and our friends Secret City in Canada9. In Conflict was written and produced by Pallett, recorded with the core rhythm section of Robbie Gordon and Matt Smith, and features contributions from Brian Eno and The Czech FILMharmonic Orchestra, amongst others. Watch the illuminating album trailer below.
In Conflict is full of love songs - more specifically, songs about liminal states and our loved ones locked in battle with them. “The record is meant to approach ‘insanity’ in a positive way,” Owen says - emphasis on the ironizing scare quotes around singular notions of insanity. “Depression, addiction, gender trouble, and the creative state are presented as positive, loveable, empathetic ways of being. Not preferable, per se, but all as equal, valid positions that we experience, which make us human.”
Pallett was recently nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Score, alongside Arcade Fire, for their work on Spike Jonze’s Her. While Pallett has served as a versatile collaborator to many projects in both pop and art establishments— the list is far too long to recite here, but you know where to look— he is equally beloved for his accessibility; for the way his art reflects & resonates with Mainstream Pop Culture; for the emotionally cathartic outlet his music provides.
In Conflict will be available on CD, digital, standard edition LP and limited edition double LP (with three bonus tracks) through Domino Mart and iTunes.
In Conflict tracklisting:
1. I Am Not Afraid 2. In Conflict 3. On A Path 4. Song For Five & Six 5. The Secret Seven 6. Chorale 7. The Passions 8. The Sky Behind The Flag 9. ---> (1) 10. The Riverbed 11. Infernal Fantasy 12. Soldiers Rock 13. ---> (2)

We're proud to announce proud to present the third album from the Bristol duo of Malachai, entitled Beyond Uglyand to be released on April 1.
Beyond Ugly is the last panel in the band's Ugly triptych and that it was completed at all came as a shock to all concerned, least of all the group. After the conclusion of the campaign for their second album, Return To The Ugly Side, members Gee Ealey and Scott Hendy drifted apart with no definitive plans to take up arms together. It was a chance meeting in Bristol that drew the two back into one another's orbit and to the realization that there was some unfinished monkey business. The duo re-engaged slowly and Beyond Ugly began to take shape.
And what a fine shape it is... Beyond Ugly recaptures the sonic stew of debut album, The Ugly Side Of Love, a potent of brew of post-summer of love and some good ol’ Bristol-fashion psychedelic comedown. However, there’s a healthy dose of renewed restlessness and anger emanating from Ealey that permeates the album thanks to some spirited vocal performances, from the anthemic and vengeful soliloquy of “Sweet Flower” to the civilly disobedient “I Deserve To No.” Watch the video for 'I Deserve To No' below.
Of course, Malachai isn’t a one-man show. As Rakim had Eric B... Hendy, the duo’s musical director, has truly outdone his past efforts and provides a sturdy musical platform from which Rev. Ealey delivers his sermons, whether the occasion calls for an exotic sturm-und-clang (“I Deserve To No”) or a genteel soft-shoe waltz (“Hear It Comes”).
Malachai have always enjoyed // suffered the curse of being a “musician’s band.” Geoff Barrow of Portishead originally released The Ugly Side Of Love on his Invada imprint before Domino swooped in and there was no bigger proselytizer of Malachai’s prowess than Sergio Pizzorno of Kasabian. Both take their support a step further with guest appearances on “Dragons Ball” and “The Love” respectively. Additionally, “Segs” Jennings, bassist from punk legends The Ruts joins the fray on “Sweet Flower.”
The album concludes with a montage of hallucinations from across the band’s discography before what can be best described as the ominous twilight tranquility of “End.” Is this really where the Malachai story ends? As shown by the creative triumph of Beyond Ugly, sometimes it’s best not to plan at all and just let it happen. We’ll do our best to let you know when it does.
Beyond Ugly will be released on CD, LP and digitally and is available to pre-order now through the Domino Mart.
Beyond Ugly Tracklisting:
1. Sweet Flower 2.Don’t Try This At Home 3.Dragons Ball 4. Holes 5.Hear It Comes 6.I Deserve To No 7.White Nuthin’ Sky 8.The Love 9.Army 10. Dark Before The Dawn 11. End 12.Down To Earth
We don't want to over explain it, but simply put, a viewer's patience is rewarded with a minimalist storytelling jewel. Fensler explains:
"The story of the video is simply up to the viewer to discover and interpret. The visual accompaniment to the song wasn't made to be explained in a press release, sorry. Lets all have a little mystery for once. I suggest simply putting on some headphones on or go home and go full screen on that totally kick-ass home theater system you have and relax for three minutes to a cogitative music video. Hopefully it will make you stop and think for a moment."

Cass McCombs "Brighter!" featuring a tour-de-force vocal performance by the late Karen Black, is one of the highlights from McCombs's latest album, Big Wheel And Others, and the video directed by the iconic actress and singer's surviving husband, director Stephen Eckelberry, is a moving tribute to her unique legacy. Eckelberry explains:
"Cass McCombs emailed me in late November 2013 and asked if I would create a music video for 'Brighter!' - the song he recorded with Karen in December 2012 - using classic clips from her movies. It struck me as an opportunity to explore a theme that interests me - the relationship of film and memory. We watch a movie and the images from that movie become part of our memory stream.
My own memories of Karen are intertwined with memories of her in films - it gets messier for me since I directed several movies she was in - which memory is stronger; Karen during the making the film or what ended up on screen? An image came to me: Cass himself becoming a screen for the projection of images of Karen - as if his memories of her were playing themselves out over his body.
I found a clip I had shot with my iPhone when Cass was over at our house rehearsing the song with Karen, and I combined that with clips of her movies, some iconic, some more obscure, and I weaved in footage of fire, sparks, burning . . . The song does seem to deal with hell, or is it the hell of fame?"
Black, who passed away on August 8th, 2013 after battling ampullary cancer, had a long and storied career filled with accolades, including an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress in Five Easy Pieces and a Grammy nomination for her contributions to the soundtrack for the Robert Altman-directed Nashville. "Brighter!" was the second collaboration between McCombs and Black, the first being her hauntingly memorable contributions to "Dreams-Come-True-Girl," a track on McCombs's 2009 album, Catacombs.

We're proud to announce Present Tense, the fourth album from Wild Beasts out February 25th, 2014 andthe followup to 2011’s critically acclaimed Smother. Present Tense takes cues from the most intense and effervescent of 1980s and 1990s electronic sound but rethinking and retooling these elements with exquisite detail for the 21st century.
Longer in creation than any of its predecessors, Hayden Thorpe (vocals, guitar, keys, bass), Tom Fleming (vocals, guitar, bass, keys), Chris Thorpe (drums) and Ben Little (guitar, keys) took almost a full year away from touring to conceive and construct the eleven tracks of Present Tense. Written in London and recorded at Konk Studios in London and at The Distillery in Bath, the band worked in close collaboration with co-producers Lexxx and Brian Eno protégé Leo Abrahams to create a record of astounding intricacy, coherence and emotional resonance.
Considered to be one of contemporary Britain's most innovative and vital bands, Present Tense sees the group's ever-restless collective muse lead them to remarkable new heights - boldly embracing new production techniques and songwriting forms while retaining the thrilling idiosyncrasies that have made them so beloved over the course of three beguiling and beautiful albums to date.
Watch the video for album opener 'Wanderlust' directed by Barcelona-based collective NYSU below.

Domino are very honored to announce the North American release of the 30th anniversary edition of Aztec Camera’s classic debut album, High Land, Hard Rain.
With the original album remastered from the analog tapes (i’ve heard the test pressings and it does laps around the original pressing) and the CD package full of all sorts of super rare nuggets (many not available before digitally), this deluxe re-issue does not disappoint. This announcement comes in the wake of three sold-out command performances by Frame in the UK to commemorate the 30th anniversary by playing the album in its entirety (complimented by additional material from his repertoire) to universal acclaim.
Contemporary with fellow Glaswegians Orange Juice, Aztec Camera made their debut on vinyl with the release of the “Just Like Gold” single on the seminal Postcard label when Frame was only 16 years old. Another single followed on Postcard with “Mattress Of Wire” before the band made their move to the more firmly established Rough Trade label to record their debut album, High Land, Hard Rain (released in North America on Sire Records).
The album opens with the exuberant pop of “Oblivious,” one of the enduring songs of its decade, which very nearly became Rough Trade’s first UK Top 40 hit in the early days of 1983 (Fear not, the song’s re-issue on WEA later that year would drive it into the Top 20 eventually). Follow-up single “Walk Out To Winter” is yet another tour-de-force of pop songwriting, as well as showcasing Frame’s prodigious talents as a guitarist. Frame re-visited the Postcard b-side “We Could Send Letters” to end side one. A sweeping dramatic masterpiece of heartache and yearning, it is easily one of his most beloved compostions to this day.
In his new liner notes for this edition, Rolling Stone’s David Fricke calls High Land, Hard Rain “ten songs of anxious yearning, romantic urgency, big hurt and hard-won learning, distilled into compact dramas of buckskin-folk jangle and skewed-pop elegance.” We call it the one of the greatest debut albums in the history of rock ‘n’ roll. That it was written and conceived by the group’s EIGHTEEN YEAR OLD mastermind, well that just defies all logic and sense of fair play.

Jon Hopkins has shared a stunning new video directed by Tom Haines for new single 'Collider' from his Mercury Prize-nominated fourth studio album Immunity. Watch the video and read Haines' thoughts below.
Hopkins finished his biggest headlining North American tour this past weekend with sold out shows at the Independent in San Francisco and Echoplex in Los Angeles. Listen to his recent performance on KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic in which he performed new versions of Immunity singles ‘Open Eye Signal,’ ‘Breathe This Air,’ and ‘Collider.’
‘Collider – Remixes,’ featuring remixes from Pangaea, Karenn and Objekt will be available on 12” and digitally on Feb 25, 2014. An Extended Edition of Immunity featuring videos and remixes will be available exclusively through iTunes on December 9, 2013 and is available to pre-order now. Find the tracklisting at the bottom.
Director Tom Haines said the following about the video: “Jon's music has a transportive quality, which can be blissful and expansive, but can also be internal, and more aggressive, and Collider is at this end of the spectrum. We wanted to create an internal journey, which was unflinching, singular and claustrophobic and at the same time liberating. The video is like a voodoo ceremony, where the lead character dances herself into frenzy, and through the dance gains access to a parallel dimension; it's her unfurling thoughts, her dislocated mind, and hints at something more apocalyptic - an end game for her and us.”
Immunity (extended edition) tracklisting is as follows: 1. "We Disappear" 2. "Open Eye Signal" 3. "Breathe This Air" 4. "Collider" 5. "Abandon Window" 6. "Form By Firelight" 7. "Sun Harmonics" 8. "Immunity" 9. "Open Eye Signal (Happa remix)” 10. "Open Eye Signal (Lord Of The Isles remix)" 11. "Open Eye Signal (Luke Abbott remix)" 12. Earlier this year The Pastels finally returned with a long-awaited new record, Slow Summits. ‘Kicking Leaves’, one of the key tracks, slaloms fantastically in and out of focus, Katrina Mitchell's vocal gliding along Craig Armstrong's majestic string arrangement.
The video was shot by Blair Young at The Forest Of Black. Watch it below:
"’Kicking Leaves’ is sunblind chill in Fall, or maybe the cool warmth of late Spring, depending on which hemisphere you're standing in right now. If it's Autumn where you are, every breath trails white as quiet colours collide in the beam of your vision. This moment of transformation is one The Pastels have always captured well, when you're see-sawing between states, just before diving in with typical boldness and bravura (the strings skirling around the song's coda capture that giddy moment of uncertainty perfectly).
“The Forest Of Black respond with a beautiful film of many parts: double-exposures that gently psychedelicise Glasgow landscapes; sudden bursts of saturated energy like the 'closed-eye vision' celebrated by Stan Brakhage, "the shapes and colours we see when our eyes are closed," as Fred Camper explains. But the kinetic drive of the treatments also reminds me of other pioneers of experimental film form, like Margaret Tait, Marie Menken, Rose Lowder and Cecile Fontaine, whose beautiful filmic visions present new ways of seeing, tender buttons of exploration and inspiration, channelled by cinematic free radicals." - Jon Dale, Melbourne, November 2013
Franz Ferdinand have unveiled their new video for next single “Bullet,” a dynamic 360 degree performance film directed by long term collaborator Andy Knowles who has also shot videos for The Cribs, The Vaccines, Clinic and Peaches.“Bullet” was produced by Prince House Rabbit, recorded in Scotland and mixed in Vancouver, Canada by Mike Fraser.
"I’ve worked with the band in one way or another since their first gig, back in 2002, which was in my ex-girlfriend’s bedroom. I wanted to capture a stripped back, honest performance and I think having a good relationship with the guys helped achieve this. The ‘bulletime’ effect was added to really draw out little moments that every fan will recognize as signature Franz live performance tics. The song is so fast, it demanded an equally dizzy editing style to really capture the energy." – Andy Knowles
After making the musical come back of the year with their acclaimed fourth album Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action (Domino), marking a triumphant return to the Billboard Charts and delivering another radio hit in the form of lead single "Right Action," the much-loved Scottish four-piece will return to the US for more blistering live dates in April 2014. This special west coast run includes Seattle on April 21st, Portland on April 26th, as well as an eagerly awaited return to Los Angeles on April 29that The Wiltern. “Each night is a raucous celebration of the band's decade-long career, racing through brand-new cuts and old hits…” – Rolling Stone
Watch the new video for “Forgive Me,” the third video from their most recent album Olympia below. The video is directed by fellow Canadian Claire Edmondson who also was behind Feel It Break's “Beat and the Pulse” video.
Katie Stelmanis of Austra said of the “Forgive Me” video: “A night vision camera captures life in a dark park. Among the hidden corners and leaf-covered hideaways, people purge and absolve their sins through sexual liberation. We highlight a romance between a man and a woman who seek forgiveness from each-other: the only forgiveness that is of any importance.”

Cupid Deluxe is the follow up to Hynes’ debut as Blood Orange, 2011’s Coastal Grooves. Since that album’s release, Hynes has written and produced music for the likes of Solange, Sky Ferreira, MKS, and more. ‘I was interested in those times when you think you're totally alone in your thoughts and something unexpectedly disrupts that, snapping you out. The characters in the film have very different stories but I wanted to create distinct parallels, bringing them closer and closer until they actually intersect in a single defining moment.’
The single version of ‘Breathe This Air’ features Purity Ring’s Megan James, whose vocals transform the track into a vast and shimmering expanse, bringing waves of beautiful melancholy to the original's dark and dusty techno. ‘Breathe This Air’ is the second single taken from the recently released and Mercury Prize-nominatedImmunity.
The Kills – Jamie Hince and Alison Mosshart - will return to the US this December for a select run of tour dates. The band will play songs from their fourth album 2011's Blood Pressures amongst some of their most beloved classics.
Additionally, they've announced the release of a live concert film shot in Paris in 2011. Here is the story:
On November 12th, 2011, The Kills played the first of two sold out shows at the prestigious L'Olympia Theatre in Paris. Three thousand tickets a night had been sold. After coming off stage at one of the wildest shows of their career, Jamie and Alison turned to each other and said – “we have to film tomorrow night's show!”
Overnight, the call was put out via Facebook, asking if anyone would come and film the second show for them. At sound check the next day, Sunday, November 13th, 2011, a group of friends and fans assembled to capture that night's equally stunning show for posterity.
Director Anita Ribeyrol, along with editors Olivier Aslanian and Sylvain Calves then assembled the footage into the raw, sweat drenched concert movie that The Kills are proud to launch exclusively in partnership with Equipment. Watch the film HERE.
The band is currently in the studio, writing their fifth album.

Next month sees the release of Cass McCombs forthcoming Big Wheel and Others (very few of the Domino Mart exclusive limited edition vinyl remain!) Comprised of 22 songs, Big Wheel and Others is a bundle, a bindle, a hay bale, and an oil barrel of songs. Some of the genres that are to be found on this album are: road songs, rock songs, folk songs, blues songs, country songs, rhythm and blues songs, skronk non-songs, cinema songs, cult songs, poem songs, jams, and ballads - to use however you wish. It's brimming with McCombs' gift for evocative storytelling, discerning introspection, and heartrending melody delivered through a haze of mystery and romance.
We're honored to share another new track today - Brighter! featuring the late actress/screenwriter/musician Karen Black. The pair collaborated together on 2009's Catacombs' "Dreams Come True Girl." Stream Brighter! below along with the previously released 'There Can Be Only One.'
Cass and his band -- Dan Iead (guitar), Jon Shaw (bass), Dan Allaire (drums on the West Coast), Joe Russo (drums on the East Coast) will go on an extensive tour of North America throughout November and December. All dates are below.
Jon Hopkins is headed back to North America in November for his most extensive tour yet after two visits to New York earlier this year and shows with Purity Ring in Los Angeles. This will be a co-headline tour with Clark with support from Nathan Fake.
The excitement surrounding his latest studio album Immunity keeps building as last week he was nominated for the 2013 Barclaycard Mercury Prize "An Album of the Year" award.
On his most recent trip to Los Angeles, Hopkins was interviewed by KCRW DJ Jason Bentley, host of Morning Becomes Eclectic and Metropolis. Listen back to their interview here as they discuss the making and inspiration behind his two most recent studio albums and Hopkins film score work.
